Whimsical Piglet

Finalist for the 39th Dulux Colour Awards: Whimsical Piglet

I’m beyond thrilled to share that my project, Whimsical Piglet, has been selected as a finalist in the 39th Dulux Colour Awards — a recognition that celebrates excellence and innovation in the use of colour across architecture and design throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Out of nearly 500 entries, only 88 projects were chosen by a jury of leading architects and design professionals from across the region. To be recognised in this group of visionary creators is an incredible honour and a true milestone in my design journey.

About Whimsical Piglet

Whimsical Piglet is a child’s bedroom design where imagination and elegance meet. It’s a serene, enchanting retreat that gently whispers of fairytales, while remaining grounded in practicality and comfort. The room is brought to life through a carefully curated palette of soft pastels, blush tones, ivory, and delicate gold accents — colours chosen not just for their aesthetic beauty, but for the atmosphere they create.

The palette, using Dulux paints, sets the tone for a space that is light, airy, and soothing. Subtle contrasts and muted hues evoke a sense of calm, while maintaining a playful, whimsical charm. Layered textures — from plush fabrics to tactile surfaces and delicate patterns — invite interaction, making the room feel cozy and alive.

Natural light plays a pivotal role in Whimsical Piglet, filtering through soft window treatments and casting a gentle glow across the room. Every element, from the furniture to the wall finishes, has been selected to support both functionality and imagination. It’s a space designed to evolve with its occupant — nurturing rest, sparking creativity, and growing more refined over time.

A Celebration of Colour

The Dulux Colour Awards recognise not just aesthetic excellence, but the way colour shapes our experience of space. As Andrea Lucena-Orr, Colour and Communications Manager at Dulux, said:

“Year after year, we are presented with an extraordinary array of exceptional colour use that exemplifies the pivotal role colour plays in spatial understanding, placemaking and mood setting.”

Being acknowledged in this prestigious program affirms my belief in the power of colour to tell stories, stir emotions, and transform everyday spaces into something truly magical.

The winners of the 39th Dulux Colour Awards will be announced on 28 May at the National Gallery of Victoria. Regardless of the outcome, I’m deeply grateful to be part of this inspiring community of designers and to share Whimsical Piglet as a finalist among the best in our field.
